My room is located at the front of my apartment building, which means it overlooks the street. Across the street, there are two apartment buildings, and between them is a driveway to a little parking lot in the back. When I look out my window, the driveway is directly in the center.
On February 13 and 14, it snowed a LOT here. Yes, it snows a lot in Cleveland, but not all at once. Anyway, we got something like 10 or 15 inches, which could have been worse, but then it snowed some more over the next few days.
That weekend, while it was snowing away outside, I was practicing in my room. When I practice, I often look out my window, especially while I'm doing technique stuff. Sometime in the afternoon, I noticed a car pull up into the driveway, and it had Texas plates. I've seen this car before. However, there is a problem. The car starts sliding a little bit, and then won't go any further. The driveway hasn't been plowed at all, and there's a good 3 inches or so of snow that has built up, probably over a layer of ice. The guy gets out of his car, clears the snow from around his tires, then gets back in and tries again. The car moves, but a little sideways toward the wall. This time, the guy gets out and tries pushing his car. He does this a few times with no luck, then goes back to his first plan, which doesn't really help either.
After about 10 minutes of this, I feel sorry for him (afterall, he's from Texas, so I understand what he's going through). Then this brilliant thought occured to me. KITTY LITTER! I had once read that you could use it if your car got stuck in the snow. I suppose it works kind of like salt, but it must absorb the moisture because..well, that's what it does! haha. Well, guess who has a box of kitty litter? That's right. So I literally put on my coat and was about to walk across the street with the stuff when I saw that he actually pulled out of the driveway and was then driving backwards down the street. Oh well...
But then he was back and what does he do? He tries to pull up his driveway again. Not smart there, fella. Of course his car gets stuck, and I thought about going over there again, but then he got out and just left it. And then I had to go to Akron. Oh well...
So why was this "my almost Desperate Housewivesy moment"? Well, I'll tell ya.
That fella happened to be kinda cute from afar.
But then I am neither desperate nor a housewife.
The End.
Well, almost.
As brilliant as the kitty litter idea was, I later realized that there is a bucket of salt in the foyer of my apartment building...

wow, what a good samaritan thing you almost got to do.
which reminds me of this cartoon i saw once (oddtodd) where this guy said, "The fact that I though about volunteering made me feel better about, not, volunteering."
i still haven't driven on snow. it doesn't look fun...
Great story - but think to yourself, would you want a man who couldn't work himself up a small incline in the snow? If he wasn't prepared to take on such a tiny challenge as that, how do you think he would deal with the challenges you two would face in the future? Methinks you are much better off without him.
P.S. Was Monkey upset that you were taking away his cat litter to give to some stranger?
Haha, good point, Eddy. I can't say that it didn't cross my mind either...I mostly felt sorry for him because he was from Texas. He had a BMW though, so that lessened the empathy, especially since it looked like we were about the same age. My guess is that he probably doesn't deal with challenges on his own very well, with the slippery driveway episode being a perfect little example...
P.S. Monkey is a girl!
Oops ... I thought she was, but for some reason ... sorry Monkey :(
Oh, and if he were a smart spoiled rich weenie, he would have opted for the "x" model BMWs with all wheel drive... :P
PLEEEEASE go talk to him! we need a hampshire boyfriend!
We? I believe "we" do not need any boyfriends. At least you sure don't!
Ahhh, nothing like a good roomie catfight on Blogger. Hee hee hee :P
Just kidding of course!
Oh psh, that's no roomie catfight. But if you're interested in one, WW3 was down the street...
